Meet the team & Discover our Values

Meet the Team:

Pastor David and Heather Baker (Lead Pastor): Pastor David, his wife Heather, and their three wonderful children, have been serving at SouthPort Church for 8 years. Pastor David has a passion for not only SouthPort Church but for Saugeen Shores as a whole, to be spiritually healthy and flourishing in reaching the lost and his favourite topic of conversation is Jesus. Pastor David can often be found attending conferences with the youth, sharing a meal with the JOY 55+ group, or going downstairs on a Sunday Morning to connect with the kids for a moment. Pastor David has the incredible ability to reach out and make anyone smile, and he often does. Pastor David services as the Owensound Section Pastor and works hard to care for, assist and bring together churches in the area. He is active in the community in many ways and serves as both a hospital and police chaplain. Pastor David and Heather are both gifted musically, Pastor David playing the drums, and Heather leading on the piano Sunday mornings. As their three children get older, we also see much of their parent’s musical ability in them. (contact us!: david@myfamily.church & heather@myfamily.church)

Eric and Maren Brandsma (4 HIS Ministry Directors// Church Life Pastors): The Brandsma’s have been serving at SouthPort for 4 years now. They have been in ministry for 25 years. They are the founders of 4 HIS Ministry, a ministry that comes along side single pastor churches to assist in areas of growth, through ministry development and leadership training. They have worked hands on with many churches in Ontario and are thrilled to have landed at SouthPort. It is their mission to see the body of Christ grow and flourish. Here at SouthPort they have been creating a unique and one of a kind Children’s Ministry and Youth ministry. The Brandsma’s assist in program development and they both take turns preaching Sunday nights. Eric enjoys the behind the scenes work coordinating the sound booth while Maren enjoys leading Face 2 Face Women’s Connection and contributes much of her time to the mentoring and growth of the teens in the community, as it is her desire to see a generation of youth loving like Jesus and spiritually in tune with his will. Maren also enjoys using her creative flare to create works of art throughout the children and youth areas. Eric and Maren have 2 teenagers, who are both quite active in the church. Keanna is currently taking Bible College courses and serving as the Children’s Church director and our administrative assistant. Noah has finished high school early and is working full time for a year as he prepares to go to Bible College. (Contact us!: eric@myfamily.church & maren@myfamily.church)

Keanna Brandsma (Administrative Assistant & Kids Cove Director): Keanna has been on staff with us for 1 and 1/2 years now and has volunteered for 2 years prior to that. Keanna is our administrative assistant and also volunteers as the Children's Ministry Director. She comes to us with many years of mentoring and volunteering under her belt and is currently doing correspondence bible college courses, while still being in active ministry at SouthPort. She has many unique skills all her own; such as her gift of music, love of kids, missions work and a heart for the girls in our community. Keanna can be found leading worship, running the Children's program, helping in our youth program , as well as lending a hand wherever there is a need. (Contact me!: keanna@myfamily.church)

Louise Ritchie (Custodian): Louise has been our Custodian for 5 years now. She takes great pride in the care of the Lord's house. She is a valuable and much needed team member who can be found helping in many areas where there is a need. Her favourite scripture is Matthew 6:9-13 which is the Lord's Prayer. Louise says "I love the Lord and all that is going on all around my life. I have much to learn, but also believe that we all do!" Louise's smile and contagious laughter are treasured here at SouthPort. (Contact me!: louise@myfamily.church)

What We Believe...

Here are the non-negotiables for us as a church community. These core beliefs are the foundation of who we are and what we proclaim to be the truth of God's Word - the Bible.

What We Believe

  • The verbal inspiration of the Scriptures as the very Word of God. 2 Peter 1:20-21
  • The Trinity - the only true God eternally existing in three persons: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.
  • That God created all people, and that all are totally lost and separated from God through sin. Romans 3:23
  • That Jesus Christ is fully God, truly human, born from a virgin and did not sin. John 1:1
  • That Jesus died for all people on the cross to satisfy Divine justice, once and for all. Hebrews 9:14-15
  • The literal resurrection of Jesus body from the dead. 1 Corinthians 15:3-8
  • Justification by faith - the fact that we are made right before God because we believe in the finished work of Jesus on the cross. Romans 5:1
  • That Christians can live free from the power of sin through the power of God. Romans 8:1
  • The privilege of receiving Divine Healing for the body in answer to believing in prayer. James 5:14-16
  • The baptism with the Holy Spirit as an experience that happens after conversion, bringing Spiritual power for Christian service, the first sign of which is speaking in other languages as the Holy Spirit enables. Acts 1:8, 2:4, 38-39
  • Water Baptism by immersion for believers according to Matthew 28:19.
  • The Lord's Supper (Communion) to remember the death of our Lord Jesus Christ as outlined in 1 Corinthians 11:23-32.
  • The second pre-millennial return of our Lord Jesus to this earth, the Rapture of His church and the resurrection of those in Christ to live forever with our Lord. Acts 1:11, 1 Corinthians 15:20-23
  • That Christians will have eternal life in Heaven, and for those who choose to reject Gods' offer of salvation, eternal punishment in Hell. Matthew 25:31-46
